Tere Bin - Rabbi Shergill (Lyrics)

A Decent Enuf Translation of one of the finest track of Rabbi.

tere bin / besides you
sanu sohnia / my love
koi hor nahio labhna / i shan't find another
jo dave / who'll give
ruh nu sakun / peace to my soul
chukke jo nakhra mera / and indulge me
ve main sare ghumm ke vekhia / i have gone and seen it all
amrika , roos, malaysia / america, russia, malaysiana
kittey vi koi fark si / there wasn't any difference
har kise di koi shart si / they all had some condition
koi mangda mera si sama / some asked for my time
koi hunda surat te fida / some were fascinated with my face
koi mangda meri si vafa / some demanded my fidelity
na koi mangda merian bala / none wanted my demons
tere bin / besides you
hor na kise / no one else
mangni merian bala / wanted my demons
tere bin / besides you
hor na kise / no one else
karni dhup vich chhan / shall shade me in the sun
jiven rukia / (the) way you paused
si tun zara / slightly
nahion bhulna / i shan't forget
main sari umar / all my life
jiven akhia si akhan chura / you said, looking away
"rovenga sanu yad kar" / "you shall weep in my memory"
hasia si main hasa ajeeb / i laughed a strange laugh
(par) tu nahi si hasia / but you didn't
dil vich tera jo raaz si / you had a secret in your heart
mainu tu kyon ni dasia / why didn't you tell me
tere bin / besides you
sanu eh raz / none shall tell this
kise hor nahion dasna / secret to me
tere bin / besides you
peerh da ilaaj / what druid
kis vaid kolon labhna / has the cure to my ills
milia si ajj mainu / i found today
tera ik patra / a note of yours
likhia si jis 'te / on which you had scribbeled
tun shayr varey shah da / a varis shah couplet
park ke si osnu / upon reading which
hanjnu ik duliya / a teardrop fell
akhan 'ch band si / what was locked in the eye
seh raaz ajj khulia / was revealed today
ki tere bin / that other than you
eh mere hanjnu / these tears of mine
kise hor / won't be kissed by
nahio chumna / none else
ki tere bin / that other than you
eh mere hanjhu / these tears of mine
mitti vich rulnha / will wither in the dust

I guess it takes a longing of many years to understand the essence of this song. I don't believe in an everlasting love but this song makes me wonder how can I relate to it so much. Why do the images in mind stop at the same face even though many new faces have come by and gone! Why does it take so much out of us to understand memories can be brought back to life. Break the shackles of self-doubt wrapped in the stinky coat of societal norms; follow your heart, believe that you have one, go for it...express yourself.

Anonymous said...

It simply reminds you wonderful memories and person who loved u most.I think it will appeal to only pple who think by heart and get moved by emotions.!It very much appealed to me.!No matter how movie does this song will never die in its lovers.

The most amazing lyrics i have ever seen for a romantic song. And this song is so well sung that i dont think anyone can do a better job than Rabbi. What fascinates me the most about these lyrics is that normal people do have such thoughts. But the words rabbi used were simply awesome. It cannot be said more eloquently.

Loved *Tere Bin* to the core right from the day I heard this 2 years back. Evokes feelings so tender that one can do nothing but feel (as you all swore going speechless) . Lost my mother this February, listening to this song amplifies the feeling of my loss a million times over. Perhaps it helps me grieve and come to terms with reality. This song is the refuge.
I bet even Rabbi did'nt know what masterpiece he was setting out to make as he penned this. Magic happens only as many times. This one's for Keeps.

Wishing happiness to all!

Someone said Rabbi wrote this song for his father...I truly believe that...the song can be interpreted in many ways i think, written for a romantic love, a brother/sister, mother and a father..depending on context..but the lyrics bring it clearly to mind...who's got the devotion to a person to want to take his demons apart from his parents? I think no one...and the parents only know you'll weep for them as they did for theirs which u don't know...no romantic lovers..not even brothers/sisters..excepting for special cases would feel this...but i think it's about love...when one feels true unconditional love, this is the way one would express it. I have tears in my eyes and a smile on my face whenever I listen to this song...it's among my favourites of all time

Unknown said...

Have listened to the song 3 times again and this revelation comes...it's a song about loss..loss of unconditional love...tere bin...without, no one would accept me totally, my tears would roll in dust...but you're not there now, you kept that secret from me, why didn't you tell me...my goodness...this has got to be song of a person who feels orphaned...my bow to Rabbi.

punjabi music is only noise ...well as far as i have heard.i have lived in punjab and listened to many punjabi songs, mostly bhangra, but man this is one of a kind.rabbi is simply a genius.his music lyrics stand out from other punjabi folks.hats off to rabbi.i have become his fan.i never liked bhangra which to me sounds meaningless in terms of music and also lyrics.but rabbi is of a different leage, perhaps only one of his kind.can't wait for his next album.

Punjabi music has become noisy. Its a trend that neo nightclubs and neo DJs started. Punjabi folk is melodious and meaningful. This situation is similar to what happened to Reggae and hip-hop in west.

The following lyrics are completely synced with the songs.
tere bin
sanu soniya
koi hor nahio labhna
jo deve
ruh nu sukun
chukke jo nakhra mera

tere bin
sanu sonia
jo deve
ruh nu sukun
chukke jo nakhra mera

ve saare ghum ke vekhia
amrika, roos, malaysiaa,
kithe ni koi fark si,
har kisi di koi shart si

koi mangda meri si sama
ko honda surat te fida,
koi mangda meri si vafa
na koi mangda merian bala,

tere bin
hor na kise
mangni merian bala

tere bin
hor na kise
karni dhup vich chhan

tere bin
sanu soniya
koi hor nahio labhna
jo deve
ruh nu sukun
chukke jo nakhra mera

jiven rukia
si tun zara
nahion bhulna
main sari umar

jiven akhia si akhan chura
"rovenga sanu yad kar"
hasia si main hasa ajeeb
(par) tu nahi si hasia
dil vich tera jo raaz si
mainu tu kyon ni dasia

tere bin
sanu eh raz
kise hor nahion dasna

tere bin
peerh da ilaaj
kis vaid kolon labhna

tere bin
sanu soniya
koi hor nahio labhna
jo deve
ruh nu sukun
chukke jo nakhra mera

I love this song, it touches a deep chord. I love my parents very deeply and for me they embody Divinity on earth. When I heard that this song is all about paternal love and affection I just sat cried for a long time. True love transcends relationships and age. But nothing is as pure and unalloyed as love between children and parents. Thank you for such a real and lovely song
